March Book of the Month: The Cruel Prince
Welcome to A Novel Affair’s first Book of the Month post!
For the first book, I chose to reread one of my favorite YA book trilogies of the last few years: The Cruel Prince. If you like books with a fierce female protagonist and excellent world building, this series is a wonderful read. For the Romantasy crowd, spice is occasionally implied but pretty much non-existent. Think of this more as a coming-of-age story with an extremely complex narrator. It is important to note that this is a fantasy book dealing with Faerie, so you can expect themes of death, trauma, and abuse.
Welcome to Faerie, where the people are beautiful and live forever. Woe to the mortal who dares to challenge them.
March B.O.T.M: The Cruel Prince by Holly Black.
Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him--and face the consequences.
In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.
